Yes,you can use the batteries for power supply, but it is just for short
operation, few hours at least. It is the true that you can put bigger battery, but will you have enaugh place, that camera stay un covered?
In the general use you can find wireless cameras with different frequencies: 1.2GHZ with max. output power of 100mW ( for USA market) , 2.4 and 5.8 Ghz with max. output power of 10mW for Europe.
The range between the camera and receiver is always up to 20m or 1 wall penetration. If you see on the camera packing frase like: 100m in the open space without obstacles, forget it, it is a joke. Do you have a room with 100m open space?
There are analogue and digital cameras. Analogues cameras can be intercept by the wireless cameras scanners, digital no.
Maximum number of analogue cameras which can work in the same place at the same time are up to 3 units, if you put 4th, you will get lots of interferences.
For a digital cameras, situation is different, you can have up to 8 cameras a the same place, without any problems.
